Station History
The Idea of bringing a Station to the Surrey, Hampshire and Sussex area, was originally brought to me
sitting in the infamous Weatherspoons in Guildford. A quick meeting with my long time friend/brother, fame
and another anonymous party was all it took to get the gears in motion. It was something that we all agreed
needed to be bought to the area.
Shortly after this the 3 of us set out on a mission to find a nice high spot where we could install our
"smoke machine" and "radio mic receiving" equipment. We soon discovered a nice little spot in a tree with
fairly easy access to "smoke fluid."
At this point the name for the station was still unknown but that was the least important thing at the time.
Fairly soon we had a smoke machine installed and a tape player connected. The Smoke machine had previously been
used on a station called Kruze 96.7 FM. All was going well until one day
some interference in the form of a sheep put that smoke machine to rest.
A little while after we had saved some money to by a replacement this time on 101.9. We Had also come to a decision not to use trees, in short, they are a bitch... We thought it would be good to use a metal tree instead. It wasn't long before 101.9 was on. However the metal tree proved to work quite well and after pissing off a raggae station (not a good plan) we turned to other freqs. 105.15, 99.8, 98.0 to name a few.
For two days Njoi was on air on 98.0 but this was not to last. Problems with interference and problems with locals, soon meant we had to re-think. A spare of the moment decision meant we settled on 106.00FM. Where we stayed.
For about 6 months we were on this, repeated attempts to silence us did not work. Until the day that will go down in history with all that were involved. Knock, Knock. Silence. Bang, Crash. Don't move.....
